CLIENT BACKGROUND

<aside> 📌

Diane Chambers lives with rheumatoid arthritis, causing her frequent hip and knee pain. She also experiences increased fatigue, body aches, and muscle weakness. Due to a low T-score detailed in her latest medical report (Figure1) indicating low bone mass density, Diane Chambers is also decisively diagnosed with osteoporosis.

NEED STATEMENT

Design a hip implant for Diane Chambers that effectively alleviates the complications of osteoporosis and accounts for her low bone mass density in order to reduce the resulting symptoms of hip stiffness, body fatigue, and joint aches.

CONSTRAINTS & OBJECTIVES

The ostomy appliance must:

  1. Be biocompatible.
  2. Be able to bear a load of 25.75 - 463.5 kg (0.5-9 times patient’s body weight).
  3. Be made of durable materials.
  4. Meet regulatory standards.

The ostomy appliance should:

  1. Have a reasonable lifespan.
  2. Not inhibit the patient’s mobility and daily activities.
  3. Match the patient’s hip morphology.
  4. Ball and stem should have high strength under fatigue.
  5. Be durable under compressive forces.
